CMS Grading for Kindergarten, First, & Second Grade Scholars:
D – Developing: Student demonstrates basic level of understanding of standard with support.
P – Progressing: Student demonstrates progress toward developing mastery of standard.
M – Mastering: Student demonstrates mastery of grade level standard multiple times and in multiple ways.
E – Exemplary Mastery: Student demonstrates advanced mastery of grade level standard.
Students' grades reflect their progress towards END OF YEAR Standards. It is typical for a child to be Developing or Progressing at the beginning of the school year and move toward Progressing with some Mastery by the middle of the school year. By the end of the school year, a student should have mostly Mastery ratings. Exemplary mastery is given to students that are performing WELL ABOVE a first grade standard. If a student reaches Exemplary Mastery, this grade is typically given towards the end of the school year.
